{brazos bend}

About 45 minutes south of us, there is a State Park called Brazos Bend. It is located on the Brazos River which makes a great home for Alligators. We'd heard lots about this park and decided to check it out...on a VeRy HoT day. I think the Alligators were just as hot as we were because they pretty much were invisible. We did manage to see a couple of alligators, but we'll have to try again in the spring when they are more active---because of mating season. Maybe it's okay that we didn't have to see that.That blob in the center of a picture is an alligator...okay, it's eyeballs...covered in moss. We watched it move though the bog chasing crawfish and watching frogs jump out of it's way. We brought some very cute alligator bait. The boys did get to touch a baby alligator.

While we didn't see many live alligators, here's a great skeleton. The park had a great little visitors center and the workers, mainly volunteers, were very nice. Bart had a close encounter with a turkey.

We did find that Levi really doesn't tolerate heat well. After walking around a smallish lake, he was so tired and pretty much slept the rest of the day. I think he had a touch of heat exhaustion. Next time, we'll go when it's cooler!
